Product Manager — engineer underneath

Valentino
Destefano

People first. It's how I got here — and how I still build.

A Product Manager who came up through engineering — so I can build the product, the team, and bridge the two. Today I lead product at Cashea, Latin America's #1 BNPL.

What I do

A product manager who can build it, not just brief it.

Most PMs do one of these well. My engineering background lets me cover the whole span — useful whether you're hiring a team or a hand for hire.

01
Build the product
From discovery to launch, grounded in real user research. I ship things that have to actually work — not demos.
02
Build the team
I've built two product teams from zero. People first — culture isn't a perk, it's the engine that keeps shipping when I leave the room.
03
Speak engineer
I came up writing code — Angular, Vue, NestJS, C#. I can read the codebase, scope what's real, and earn the trust of the people who build.
04
Build with AI
I work fluently with AI — prompt engineering and vibe coding to turn an idea into a working prototype in hours, validate fast, and ship leaner.
The story

Nothing was given. So I built the path.

Nobody handed me a way in. I earned a scholarship to study Systems Engineering at Universidad Metropolitana — and not for grades alone. It was a civic-commitment scholarship, earned by showing up to help at schools across my community.

That's the through-line of everything since. Put people first, and the results follow. It's how I got into university, how I've built every team from zero, and how I lead product today.

I worked my way into product from the code up — first writing it, then deciding what gets built and why. Now I lead it at Cashea, Latin America's #1 BNPL. And I'm not done: I want to keep growing, and keep building things that have to actually work — for the people who need them most.

"It was an opportunity I took trusting in myself — I had the skills, the drive, and a challenge I simply couldn't say no to."

Then
The scholarship
Earned through service to my community.
Since
Teams from zero
Built two product teams, people first.
Now
Leading product
Same instinct, bigger stage. Still climbing.

Three calls I made.

A product manager is the decisions they make. Here are three of mine.

Cashea · Fintech / BNPL · 2025 → now

The call: decide what not to build.

Brought on to turn the country's dominant retail-BNPL into an ecommerce platform. The build was never the hard part — saying no was, while a fast company wanted everything yesterday. I held one rule: every feature defends why it exists. Fewer things, shipped right.

New vertical 0→1 · Ecommerce · In progress

Ridery · Mobility · 2022 — 2025

The call: build people, not just features.

Started as PO shipping tickets, ended running the team. The win wasn't the title — it was hiring people who outgrew me. By the end I was the least technical person in my own meetings, and the team still shipped the right thing. That's people first, in practice.

0→1 team · PO → Product Leader

SinNotaria · LegalTech · 2021 — 2022

The call: live with my own tickets.

PO in the morning, backend dev in the afternoon. Exhausting — and the most useful year of my career. Empathy is cheap until you've shipped a vague ticket at 11pm yourself. After that, I never wrote a vague one again.
